The Fischler School of Education and Human Services of Nova Southeastern
University (FSEHS-NSU), U.S.A., has reviewed the Via
Lingua CTEFL course and is proud to award graduate credits
to all Via Lingua graduates. FSEHS-NSU provides all Via Lingua
graduates with a certificate, stating that they have earned
credits towards a Masters Degree in Education with a
specialization in Teaching English as Foreign Language.
The Master of Science program in education, with a
specialization in Teaching English as a Foreign Language,
focuses on training current and future educators in the
areas of foreign language instruction, curriculum
development, and assessment and evaluation. This
specialization provides students with a foundation in second
language learning theories and instructional technologies
and distance education; it then allows students to further
explore advanced studies in applied linguistics or
technology. Course content is research based and is infused
with best practices in education.
Coursework in the Teaching English as a Foreign Language
specialization is conducted entirely online. This approach
allows students to receive and submit coursework and
interact with participants and professors via the Internet.
This distance delivery option allows busy professionals to
complete their degrees without having to leave their jobs or
travel long distances.
Faculty members for the Master of Science in Education are
recognized scholars and educators from The Fischler School of Education and Human Services of Nova Southeastern
University and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition, many are also highly respected professional practitioners. They are carefully
selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most importantly, they are united in their desire to
not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to inspire
others.

MATESOL Program at St. Michael's College!
Saint Michael's is a Liberal Arts college of just under
2,000 students located minutes from the outstanding college town of Burlington,
Vermont. The College was founded in 1904. Their guiding principles of education,
justice, and service to the poor are at the heart of the Saint Michael's
experience. St. Michael's is included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, regarded
as the most authoritative, most prestigious directory of colleges and
universities, and
Princeton Review's Best 376 Colleges. U.S. News & World Report ranks Saint
Michael's among the "Best National Liberal Arts Colleges" and Newsweek/Kaplan
named St. Mike's one of 30 "Hidden Treasures" - "small schools that deserve
national recognition."
Successful completion of the Via Lingua Certification Program will qualify
applicants who have been accepted into the MATESOL Program for up to 4 credits
of advanced standing toward their MATESOL coursework. The 4 credits will be
applied to waive coursework to be decided by SMC faculty, within the 36-credit
MATESOL Program.
The TESOL programs at St. Michael's College are for people who want to teach
English to non-native speakers in the United States or in other countries.
Courses for the TESOL Program are offered throughout the year, including summer,
and are held during late afternoon and evening hours, so that working
professionals can also take classes.
The program may be completed in three or four terms of full-time study, or part
time over the course of three or four summers. Students may also enroll in the
program on a part-time basis and take up to seven years to complete the program.
Course work in the TESOL Programs blends theory and practice in order to best
prepare students for careers in teaching worldwide. First, students learn
theories about the teaching of English as a second or foreign language in the
classroom. Then, they apply what they have learned by working directly with ESL
students at Saint Michael's, with immigrants and refugees in the Burlington
area, or with children in the Vermont school system. Graduate students may also
take courses and do practice teaching in other countries.
Peace Corps MATESOL Program
Students may enroll in the MATESOL program in conjunction with a minimum of two
years of service in the Peace Corps. The Saint Michael's Peace Corps Master's
International Program (MIP) is one of only ten colleges and universities in the
United States that offers this opportunity. The combined program allows students
to earn credits toward their MATESOL degree while performing volunteer service
abroad for the Peace Corps.
